Saying goodbye to our old home

In 2010, NYWC was very close to becoming homeless when an anonymous donor came forward and offered the organization rent-free space in a former restaurant with an apartment above at 2446 Dufferin Street. The women’s center was thrilled with the donation, accepting that major renovations would be required to make it suitable for NYWC’s work.

For 6 months, local residents, area businesses, women’s centre members and a huge of team volunteers contributed an enormous amount of labour and material to prepare the space. Employees from Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse at Castlefield and Caledonia got involved and even sourced donations from their suppliers, customers and contractors.

Every weekend was a flurry of activity as the space was transformed into a warm and comfortable home with boosted real estate value and aesthetics.

As it gets ready for new quarters, NYWC thanks its donors, neighbours and local community groups for 5 years of prosperity and success in opening doors for women.
