“Seeing How NYWC Helps People Feel Seen And Cared For Has Been Incredibly Rewarding.”

Anjie Bibiresanmi’s summer placement as NYWC’s Marketing and Communications Assistant allowed her to combine two passions into one.
“I was excited about the opportunity to work with NYWC because I wanted to be part of an organization that supports and empowers women,” says Anjie. “I knew it would be a place where I could both contribute and learn. I’ve held some marketing director club roles in school and those have fueled my enthusiasm for this field. This role offered the perfect blend of my passion for marketing and my commitment to women’s advocacy.”
Building skills and awareness about NYWC
Anjie’s time as a Marketing and Communications Assistant has been a journey of both personal and professional growth. From researching and creating content for NYWC’s social media and blogs, building newsletters and designing marketing materials for summer events, she helped build vital awareness about NYWC services.
“I’ve become proficient in using new software like Constant Contact, Apricot, and WordPress,” says Anjie, noting that the experience helped her better understand how to effectively engage and connect with people on different digital platforms.
Working closely with service users and assisting with the call line also gave her valuable insights into the importance of compassion. As she says, “Engaging with women who come to the Centre has taught me to be more empathetic, and to communicate in a way that makes people feel at ease and valued.”
Making an impact on women
Throughout her time at NYWC, Anjie has had the opportunity to see the real difference workshops make in the lives of women. She found it deeply rewarding to witness the gratitude and positive change that the workshops bring to participants.
“One of the most moving moments for me at NYWC has been witnessing the impact our workshops have on women,” says Anjie. “Many women have expressed their gratitude, and have shared how the space met their needs and made them feel valued. Seeing how our efforts help people feel seen and cared for has been incredibly rewarding.”
Creative Fulfillment and Team Inspiration
Anjie also appreciated the opportunity to work alongside a talented and inspiring marketing team this summer.
“I enjoyed creating content for the organization,” she says. ”It’s both soothing and rewarding to produce something visually appealing. Contributing to the organization’s social media presence has been a great experience. In addition, I valued the opportunity to work with the marketing team, who are not only highly skilled but also incredibly inspiring.”
Anjie highly recommends summer internships at NYWC or similar non-profits, and encourages students to embrace the opportunity fully.
As she says, “Non-profits like NYWC have small, dedicated teams, which means you’ll likely wear many hats and gain hands-on experience across different areas. Be open to learning, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, take initiative and put your ideas out there!”
