Are you looking to get involved in your community and support women and gender-diverse people who’ve experienced violence? Share your talents, build new skills, and make connections as a volunteer with NYWC!

How you can help

Drop-In Lounge Volunteer
Share your skills, expertise, or interests with Lounge attendees by leading a workshop. Be a friendly Buddy at Lounge events, welcoming new attendees feel comfortable at NYWC programs.

Special Events Volunteer
Assist with  event set up and takedown, attendee check in, serving food, and other day-of tasks to ensure events run smoothly and guests feel welcome.

Translation Services Volunteer
Provide real-time translation during One-on-One appointments, translate documents, or support outreach. We are seeking  volunteers fluent in the following: Farsi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Portuguese, Spanish, and other languages. 

Childminding Volunteer
Support our service users by providing childminding support so that they can attend Group Programs, The Lounge, and One-on-One appointments worry-free.

Support service users by supervising and engaging children so parents/guardians can attend Group Programs, Lounge activities, or One-on-One appointments with peace of mind. Training can be provided!

NYWC is currently accepting volunteers on a continuously rotating basis. Submissions are reviewed regularly, so if there isn’t a role of interest right now, please keep an eye on our postings or fill out the volunteer interest form to share your interest.

NYWC is committed to providing students with meaningful and engaging learning opportunities that support their learning goals while meeting the needs of our community. 

Placement projects and responsibilities may vary but students can expect to assist with  Resource Line, The Lounge, and with outreach activities.

Please confirm with your school or program the requirements of your placement and application process internally. 

Before you apply for a placement, we encourage you to learn about NYWC, our values, and our programs and services. Consider which of our programs and services resonates with you and where you believe you can make the largest impact. 

Once you are sure that this placement is a good fit, please apply by emailing us your resume and cover letter at info@nywc.org.

Applications must be received with the following subject line: Student Placement Inquiry, Your Name, Institution, and Placement Term (for example, Student Placement Inquiry - Emily Charman, Wilfred Laurier, Fall/Winter 2025/2026). 

NYWC accepts applications for Fall/Winter Placement students from January to March. For all other placement terms, please submit your application as instructed by your institution.

Manager, Employment & Training Programs

We’re looking for a new Manager to lead and grow our Employment & Training programs at North York Women’s Centre. This role will focus on expanding our STEPS to Work program by increasing the frequency of sessions, extending one-on-one coaching, integrating employment workshops into our drop-in programming and developing online materials to make engagement and learning more accessible.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about community-based work, program development and supporting women and gender-diverse people on their employment journey.

Join the NYWC community by becoming a member! 

Membership is open to current and former service users, volunteers, donors, and the general public who support our mission, vision, and values. 

How NYWC Members Help

NYWC Members receive meeting and voting rights which allow them to participate in governance activities. 

This means that all members in good standing are able to join our Annual General Meeting and cast their vote on electing the board of directors, approving by-laws, and be a part of any fundamental changes to NYWC’s purposes or objectives. 

As a Member you are eligible to become a member of the Board of Directors. As a director, you are responsible for overseeing NYWC and ensuring the organization continues to effectively deliver on its mission and moves forward on strategic priorities.

The Rights of NYWC Members

As a member of NYWC, you will have rights, including the right to:

  • Vote at our Annual General Meeting and other general members’ meetings;
  • Elect directors, nominate a member or run for election yourself;
  • Approve and confirm by-laws;
  • Receive financial statements and the auditor’s report;
  • Be kept informed through Annual Reports and newsletters.
