Imagine being part of a woman-focused non-profit organization, gaining practicum experience and learning opportunities. Our summer placements at North York Women’s Centre in Toronto offer exactly that, and we’re delighted to welcome Khadija, Leviza and Cassandra, three new and talented individuals to our team! They are equally enthusiastic about the opportunity.

Inclusivity & Motivating Workshops

“I’m excited about working for the North York Women’s Centre because of the inclusive and empowering values that it encourages among both the staff and visitors,” says Cassandra. “I’m also looking forward to being involved in the behind-the-scenes work facilitating the Women’s Lounge workshops.”

The placements are ideal for individuals who are studying or have studied social work, gender studies, community development, health promotion and more. The placements also help pave the way to future employment and success.

Empowering The Next-Gen Workforce

As NYWC Executive Director Iris Fabbro says, “NYWC’s goal of women’s empowerment includes supporting the building of a diverse next-generation workforce by providing summer employment experiences to young people — particularly young people from traditionally marginalized communities. The Canada Summer Jobs program helps us to do that. Summer job placements provide youth with practical workplace training, transferable hard and soft skills, and exposure to professional work.”

Khadija and Leviza are also eager to help empower women and gender-diverse individuals this summer.

“I am very excited to be working at North York Women’s Centre,” says Leviza. “I look forward to learning, growing, and helping as many women as I can.”

If you’re interested in applying for a placement opportunity, visit our student placements page and fill out the application form. Plus, find out what other former placement staff have to say about the skills that they built and the learning experiences that they valued most. As one woman said, “My experience at NYWC has been nothing short of extraordinary.”
