Join NYWC & The Period Purse on International Women’s Day!

Free International Women's Day event with North York Women's Centre and The Period Purse

Celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) at our free event on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at North York Women’s Centre. IWD is a day to celebrate who we are, what we have achieved, and how to further empower women today. (Register for the event here.)

This fun, interactive session is presented in collaboration with The Period Purse. This organization creates menstrual equity by ensuring sustainable access to period products for all, and by ending the stigma associated with periods through education and advocacy.

So why is menstruation a feminist issue that’s worth raising on International Women’s Day? Because it impacts women’s education and livelihoods, making it very relevant to the IWD 2023 theme, #EmbraceEquity.

“Food insecurity and unaffordable housing make headlines, but period poverty often doesn’t,” says NYWC Executive Director Iris Fabbro.

“Menstrual health and unaffordable sanitary hygiene products affect girls and women by impacting their school and work and by extension, women’s economic advancement,” she adds. “At the same time, stigma and misconceptions around menstruation still exist, leading to exclusion and discrimination against women and girls. Individually and combined, these undermine gender equality.”

This welcoming and helpful session will include information on menstruation, endometriosis, period poverty and how to promote discussion of these topics with fathers, children, friends and partners. There will be free menstrual products and product presentations, too. We hope you’ll join us there!

Kindly register online or call 416-781-0479 to register. See you there!
